General Guidelines for open reading period

We accept unsolicited manuscripts in January and June only. Our other reading times are through our contests -- Southern Hum Press Annual Chapbook Contest, as well as Southern Hum Press Women of Words Award and Chapbook Contest.

If you are interested in submitting during our January or June reading period, please submit a poetry or prose manuscript in a Microsoft Word attachment of up to 32 pages  to southernhum@gmail.com

We do prefer emailed submissions. 

Chapbooks need not be southern themed.  

Please include with your submission a brief cover letter that includes previous publications. However, do not be alarmed if you have few or zero -- previous publications are not required.

If accepted for publication, you will receive 25 copies of the chapbook (additional copies available for 50% off), and the chapbook will be placed online.  

There is no reading fee during our open reading period.
